The While House has strongly condemned Taliban attacks in key northern city of Afghanistan.
Josh Earnest, White House spokesman said on Tuesday that Afghan troops are starting to retake some buildings in Kudoz city and that the United States is providing advisory support to them.
“The United States strongly condemns the Taliban attacks in Kunduz. We stand with the Afghan people in our commitment to Afghan peace and security,” Earnest said.
Heavy clashes have been erupting in Kundoz city and surrounding areas for the 3rd consecutive day as security forces are trying to break the siege of Taliban.
Reports suggest that NATO has sent its special forces to the area to support the Afghan national security defeat the Taliban.
A western military source speaking on the condition of anonymity has told AFP that the special force is comprised of US, British and German troops.
This is the first provincial capital falling to Taliban hands after they were ousted from power in 2001.
